The match, which saw cup debut appearances for Kristian Martinez, Bear Simmons, and Jordan Westall, was dominated by the Killer 3’s from the 8th minute onward, as they unleashed a relentless offensive assault and showcased outstanding forwards play.
The match began with both teams battling for control, but from the 8th minute onward, San Antonio took command and never looked back. The forwards dominated set pieces, particularly in the scrums and lineouts, where their superior strength and coordination created a platform for quick, clinical ball movement. The Killer 3’s focused their defense on Old Skool’s powerful number 8, shutting him down repeatedly and frustrating their opposition.
Second-year player Ian Ermis was the standout of the day, crossing the try line an incredible four times. His aggressive running made him nearly unstoppable, and he capped off his performance with a solid 2 for 4 conversion rate. Ermis' first try came early, giving the Killer 3's the confidence to continue their dominance.
Not far behind, Lauolo Tuala was a force in the backline, scoring two tries with his strong, with devastating running and graceful displays of ball handling. His ability to break tackles helped keep the pressure on Old Skool throughout the match.
The Killer 3’s attack was a true team effort, with contributions from all over the field. Vinnie Aceituno crossed for one try, while Sini Tesic, playing with power and finesse, added two tries of his own. Kai Wilson also scored once, rounding out the Killer 3’s try-scoring effort.
The San Antonio backline worked seamlessly with the forwards, executing well-timed passes and quick offloads, often leaving the Old Skool defense scrambling to keep up. As the game wore on, Old Skool struggled to match the pace and technicality of the San Antonio backs, allowing the Killer 3’s to widen the gap.
As usual, Andrew Vongphachanh was solid with his goal kicking, adding a number of conversions to the scoreline and maintaining the Killer 3’s momentum. Ermis also stepped up to take a few conversions, hitting 2 of 4 attempts to further contribute to his standout performance.
Though Old Skool brought an aggressive, physical approach to the match, they were ultimately unable to withstand the Killer 3’s high-paced and technical play. San Antonio’s defense remained stout throughout, while their offense ran rampant, scoring try after try and keeping Old Skool on their heels.
As the final whistle blew, San Antonio emerged with a commanding 72-24 victory, continuing their impressive run in the Division 3 league. The team’s ability to control set pieces, shut down Old Skool’s key players, and execute a well-rounded game plan led to a dominant result on the road.
With the win, the Killer 3’s continue to build momentum as they set their sights on the next challenge in the New Year against the National Champion Austin Blacks MD3. With contributions from every player, including debutants Martinez, Simmons, and Westall, San Antonio Rugby’s future looks incredibly bright as they aim to finish the season strong.
