San Antonio Youth Touch League (2024)
Join us on five different days as we introduce your child to rugby through our Youth Touch League. A Youth Touch Rugby league is a non-contact version of rugby designed for young players, typically between the ages of 8 and 14. Unlike traditional rugby, touch rugby eliminates tackling and other physical contact, focusing instead on skill development, teamwork, and strategy. Players score by touching the opposing players, usually on the shoulders, instead of tackling them to the ground.
Benefits of Youth Touch Rugby:
Safety: The absence of physical contact reduces the risk of injury, making it a safer option for young players.
Skill Development: Touch rugby emphasizes fundamental rugby skills like passing, running, and positioning without the added complexity of tackling. This helps young players develop their agility, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness.
Teamwork and Social Skills: Players learn to work as a team, communicating and strategizing together, which fosters camaraderie and social interaction.
Inclusivity: The non-contact nature makes the sport accessible to a broader range of participants, including those who might be hesitant about the physicality of traditional rugby.
Fitness: Touch rugby offers a fun, fast-paced way to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength, and endurance.
Confidence Building: As players improve their skills and enjoy the game, they build confidence both on and off the field.
Youth Touch Rugby is an excellent introduction to the sport of rugby, providing a positive and supportive environment for young athletes to learn and grow.

You cannot expect Rugby to grow, or our San Antonio Rugby programs to evolve unless we invest in the next generation of players. A robust academy system is a must-have in the modern age of rugby and we wish to welcome your kiddos into this amazing community.
San Antonio’s Rugby Academy participates in the Rugby Texas program. Rugby Texas uses an age band structure for competitions. This method mirrors other youth sports organizational structures and attempts to create the most fair environment for youth competition and opportunity.
The Progression of Play was edited and adopted by Rugby Texas to establish clear variations and considerations based on current research from several national and international youth rugby organizations.
